What Questions Should I Be Asking My Plumber?

When you’re not an expert in a particular field, it’s easy to get anxious about making key decisions. Especially as a new homeowner, you may not have a clue as to where to you should begin. Plumbing is an industry that requires its workers to be top-notch, so here are a few questions you can ask the plumbers you are thinking of hiring to fix your pipe problems:

Are you licensed?
Having relevant credentials is ultimately the most important aspect when searching for the right candidate. If the plumber is unlicensed or unregistered, that’s a one way ticket to a plethora of mistakes. Always make sure to check their accreditation before giving them the go-ahead to start working!

What kind of experience do you have?
It’s always a good idea to make sure whoever you’re thinking about hiring has done some actual jobs before. You wouldn’t want someone who’s never picked up a hammer building your house, right? Whether it’s a small or large job, make sure the plumber has adequate experience to take on whatever task you may need.

What kind of customer feedback/references do you have?
As with any service, people always look at reviews online. If you don’t have a favorable review online, chances are you won’t be receiving many phone calls. Plumbing is a serious job, so don’t be afraid to check up on contenders! You can ask them about their customer feedback and also talk to previous customers they have helped. Ask questions like whether the job was completed or if it was good quality!

How does your payment process work?
Nowadays, who isn’t stingy with their money? Sometimes it can be awkward to talk about payment methods, but it’s something that needs to be discussed! Most plumbers charge as the job goes on and then there are some who don’t even charge any money until the job is completed. One thing any new homeowner should be aware of is that you should never trust a plumber who asks to be paid upfront in full.

Here at Empire Sewer & Water, we have the experience and the right answers to all of these questions. We are licensed, we are insured, and we have great feedback from people all over the New York City and Long Island area.
